Logistics Update

October 10th, 2007

Hi Guys

Just to provide you all with a logistics update so far.  As you already know that Dave & Allith Rutt have decided not to be part of Breakout 08 now, which leaves us with the vancancy for site manager.  If you know of anybody who maybe interested, let myself or Rob Haworth know.  In relation to stewarding, I have now appointed two stewarding co-ordinators, Andy Coley & Sarah Brown and we will be having our first meeting this Saturday, 13th October to get things rolling on this side!

Well that’s it for now.  I will provide our next update at the next MTM in November!

Mark has been busy - and has made a video from some of the footage which we took at the 2006 event and turned it into a fantastic promo for the 2008 event!

Entertainments Team update

September 17th, 2007

Greetings

I hope you have all had a good summer and made good use of your holidays. The Entertainments team have been keeping busy planning what’s going to be happening at Breakout.  The ink is still wet on the contract that we signed on Saturday, and we are really excited and pleased to be able to report that Yfriday will be playing at Breakout.  Yfriday’s website is ‘yfriday.co.uk’ and there’s loads of great information about the band etc.

The publicity DVD is now finished(Yfriday provide the music for this DVD!) and will be going to be duplicated in the next few days. Hopefully your youth leader will receive their copy soon, but if you can’t wait you will be able to download a copy from this website shortly. Rob is in the process of pressing the right buttons to make this happen as we speak. The DVD uses footage from Breakout 06 which took place in Blackpool. If you were there, look out you might see you yourself!

We are in the final stages of negiotating with other bands and hope to be able to sign a few more contracts in the next few weeks.

So keep looking out for the updates which I will post as soon as there is any new information.

In the mean time will keep being scared by the countdown clock, Only 297 days 23 hours and 2 mins to go !!!!

God Bless

Mark & the entertainments team

Mmmm Sandwiches !

September 17th, 2007

Who likes sandwiches?  I do !

At the moment I am trying to sort out the supply of over 3000 packets of sandwiches for breakout… thats a lot of loaves of bread.  What is your favorite…? I’m a bit of a Tuna Mayo fan.

At my local church Youth group we once had a cooking competition, part of which was making the most interesting and different sandwich.  Guess what, I was the judge so had to taste them all.  The winning sandwich included Egg, Icing, marmite and jam - my stomach still turns at the thought!

I will let you know how I am getting on soon.

The Countdown has started…

September 14th, 2007

Just a quick post to let you know that we’ve added a count down clock to the website - so at the time of writing there are 301 days, 1 hour, 33 minutes and 25 seconds to go until the event starts.

More soon

Rob

We’re still here - honestly!

September 5th, 2007

So it’s quite a while since any of the team have posted on the blog - the truth is that with the summer holidays we’ve been away or been working on other projects.  Mike emailed me this week with the Theological Statement for the event, which I’ve turned into a PDF which can now been downloaded from the About Breakout page.

So the major push for the next few months (for me anyway) is to work with all of the teams to make sure that all of the event infrastructure is booked and ordered - as well as working with our Production Manager, Andy - who looks after all things technical - to make sure that everyone has everything that they need, at the time they need it and where they need it - no pressure there then!

We’ve another meeting in a couple of weeks, so I’ll give everyone a prod to remind them to post where they are up to.

Bye for now…

Rob

Event Team

June 18th, 2007

Hi I am Alan Wallace and the Event Manager for Breakout 2008 which looks to be very different but very exciting. Mike Steve and I were at Cliff last week and have looked at many and varied ways of catering, where people can camp, and where all the good muisc, activities and chill out areas can be, which no doubt the Programming team will change but you have to start somewhere.

As Affinity has been working with Breakout now for a number of years mainly in venues it will be good to stage Breakout at Cliff which will have both indoor and outside arenas which will add a great deal of challenge, excitement, and hopefully not too much mud.

As we start the planning in earnest now keep popping back to the site here and see what is happening.

See you all in July 2008, just 13 months to go!!!!!!

An update on the MAYC staff

June 11th, 2007

Hi, Well this is my first ever blog…

I thought it was time that I updated you on some of the current work that the MAYC staff are involved in for Breakout. This Wednesday (13th) is very important as Steve, Rob, Alan and myself will be visiting Cliff to try to agree (hammer out) the final arrangements and prices for catering.  This will allow us to set the final budget that in turn should enable us to agree the final ticket prices for the event…. (Confession time…. it’s because I’m seeing Rob on Wednesday that I thought I ought to try to post a blog!)

I have also passed the text for the theological statement to my Coordinating Secretary for final approval.  I expect that this will be agreed this week and able to be posted on the main web site.

Another imminent meeting is tomorrow (Tuesday).  I shall be meeting with staff from the Department for Education and Skills in Sheffield and will get an idea as to whether we can apply for funding for the work of MAYC and particularly Breakout from April 2008.  If we can it may be possible to subsidise tickets prices further…

We are also busily preparing for the Methodist Conference… in fact this is pretty much dominating our work.  As well as responding to the proposed changes to MAYC, we will be supporting the Youth Participation Strategy, launching a new version of Step by Step - the good practice guide for youth work - (the new edition has an amazing name… Step by Step 2 - impressive eh?), oh and we will also be promoting Breakout at every opportunity!

Well I’m sure Rob will be suitably impressed with this now…. so TTFN

Hello !

June 3rd, 2007

Hello, I’m Michael Green and I am part of the Interactivity Team for Breakout.  I’m not going to give away any secrets yet but we have got some great sports / activities in the pipeline, things that we hope will give you completely new experiences at Breakout.

Anyway, a bit about me, I live in Norfolk (And NO ! I’ts not Flat !) although it does always seem to be a long way from anywhere else in the country.  I travel the country getting people all excited about fruit and veg and bread for a supermarket - sounds exciting I know !

Right, well that will do for now, remember to pop back every now and then to see how the planning is going, bye for now !
